See the Edit Course help topic for description of each field.

Click on the lower right to edit the course details via the Edit Course screen.

Custom

This page displays custom fields added to the course. We can easily add fields customized to the need of your institution to this page.

Click on a row to edit the value of a field if applicable.

Subjects

This page shows all the subjects under which the course is categorized.

Categorizing courses under subjects is useful when defining certain curriculum requirements of a program of study: a requirement can be defined for example as a required number of credits from courses in a specific subject, optionally within a specific level range. See the Edit Program Requirement help topic.

Click on the lower right to add a subject to the course.

Click on a row and select Yes to remove that subject from the course.

Requisites

This page shows all the requisites of this course.

Requisites fall under 2 categories: Pre-requisites are courses which must be taken before taking this course, Co-requisistes are courses which must be taken either before or simultaneously to this course. This information is used by the online registration module of College Office when determining the classes a student needs.

Click on the lower right to add a new requisite.

Click on tile to remove that requisite.

Assignment Types

This page lists the Assignment Types whose default values are overridden for this course.

Read the Gradebook and Assignment Types help topic to understand how Assignment Types are used by College Office.

Whenever you create a new class, the class is automatically assigned all currently active Assignment Types (for ex: "Homework", "Test", "Participation", ...) that you have defined along with their default properties (weight of the type when computing final grade, number of low grades ignored, minimum average in the type required to pass the class.) Those values can then be overridden at the class level. If you would like the default values of an Assignment Type for a class based on this course to be different than the standard default values of that type then just add the type you would like to override and specify its values for this course.

For example, classes for the course "MATH-701 Advanced Math" may require that the weight of the "Test" assignment type is twice the weight of the "Homework" assignment type, though normally those two types have the same weight for most other courses: in that case add those 2 assignment types to this course and override the standard values with the ones that apply for this course.

Click on the lower right to add via the Edit Course Assignment Type screen an Assignment Type whose values should be overridden for this course.

Click on a row to edit that record via the Edit Course Assignment Type screen.

Notes:

  • The values of an Assignment Type can always be overridden at the Class level, no matter what the standard default values are.
  • You only need to add an Assignment Type to the course if the course is an exception to the standard default values!
  • Check the help topics on Assignment Types and Class Assignment Types for more details.
