Compatible Scanners
KNOWLEDGE BASE -> Compatible Scanners
College Office can use the following scanners if they are accessible from your local computer:
- On Windows computers, any image scanners that have drivers following the TWAIN standard. Some scanners come with different drivers: always select the TWAIN compatible driver if available. Refer to the list of TWAIN certified drivers if needed.
- On Apple macOS computers, any image scanners that have drivers following the ICA (Image Capture Core Framework) standard. (TWAIN drivers are also compatible but sometimes not as reliable as ICA drivers on macOS computers).
- On Linux computers, any image scanners that have drivers following the SANE Application Program Interface version 1.0.25 (current version). Refer to the list of SANE compatible scanners. (TWAIN drivers are also compatible but sometimes not as reliable as SANE drivers on Linux computers).
We have found in our own testing that scanners embedded in printers were slow, it took a while to establish the connection with the scanner and scanning was slow. We have had excellent results with dedicated scanners such as the affordable EPSON ES-400: the connection is quickly established and the scanning is fast, even in duplex mode.
